With the summer holidays just beginning and possibly a few wet days you, may be looking for a simple STEM idea that keeps the children learning while having fun. This is a simple robot that draws lines.
What you will need
Strong paper or plastic cup, strong tape, play doh (optional), 3 felt pens, small motor, CR2032 battery or AA battery depending on the motor chosen and scissors.
Starting out
There are ideas on You Tube see Light Stitches Robots. A couple of my favourites are:-Scribbling bot from We The Curious and Homemade doodlebot
How to make your Scribble bot
- Get all the materials ready to start.
- Take your plastic cup and attach the pens to the cup use strong tape to secure them. The drawing tips of the pens should point down and extend past the bottom of the cup. This will enable your scribble bot to draw.
- Add the motor to the side of the cup and secure with tape then add the battery and secure well.
- You can add play doh to add weight to the scribble bot this will alter how the scribble bot draws – experiment you will see how your drawing change.
